Running in the background

By default MacWatcher only watches while it’s running. To keep watching after you quit, turn on Run in background (Settings → General).

A small background service takes over watching, so an away-session keeps running even if the app isn’t open.

Grant the service its own camera permission

Section titled “Grant the service its own camera permission”

The background service is a separate program, so macOS gives it its own camera permission entry. When you enable Run in background, the app shows two camera rows — grant the service access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera as well, or background captures will be blank.

Switch Run in background off to go back to watching only while the app is open.
